On 4 June 2025, His Excellency Kallayana Vipattipumiprates, Ambassador of Thailand to Canada, as representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and Thanpuying Varaporn Pramoj Na Ayudhaya, President of the World Tipitaka Foundation, together with Ms. Penphan Thipkong, Ms. Phenthip Thipkhong, and Mr. Keerati Thipkong, formally presented the World Tipitaka Saj-jha-ya Phonetic Recitation, King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit Commemorative 2016 Editions, totalling
80 volumes, to the University of Toronto. The Set was received by Mr. Larry Alford, Chief Librarian of the University of Toronto Libraries. The ceremony was attended by over 50 participants, including Thai Buddhist monks, representatives from the Thai community in Toronto, Thai students at the University of Toronto, and library staff.
On this auspicious occasion, the University of Toronto Library also presented to the audience the Chulachomklao of Syām-Pāli Tipitaka, Bangkok Era 112 (1893) Edition, which consists of 39 volumes and has been well preserved at the University’s Library. The University of Toronto is one of the two institutions in Canada received this Edition of the Tipitaka from His Majesty King Chulalongkorn or King Rama V of Siam.
This presentation was part of a global dissemination project to honor the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary on 28 July 2024. This collaboration project between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and the World Tipitaka Foundation aims to donate the special Tipitaka Editions to overseas libraries, institutions and organizations in more than 36 countries, including Canada, where His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother once paid official visits.
